Exercise 1

Know why you want to lose weight.

WHY?

You may think just shedding those extra pounds would be satisfying.

Of course it would be nice to fit into smaller clothes and be able to run without getting out of breath.

But if you want to lose weight for the wrong reasons, like many others before you, there’s a good chance that either your diet will fail or that you will put weight back on after your diet is over.

3 Good reasons for wanting to lose weight:

       To get fit

       To avoid health problems

       To improve your self confidence

3 Bad reasons for wanting to lose weight:

To make a bad relationship good

To make someone proud of you

To make other people like or accept you

See the difference? If you want to lose weight for YOU, you are much more likely to succeed!

Understand your motivation, then use these diet/lifestyle changes and tips to help maintain your motivation.

So, first things first:

A reason list is probably more beneficial than a resolution list – to resolve to do one or the other often times lacks the motivation (therefore: reason), that you need to put willpower into motion.

WILLPOWER :  if you want something badly enough, you will have the power to make it happen.

Your reason list can be short or long, but if it exceeds 3-5 reasons or develops into a paragraph or short story, you should pick the 3 most important ones and list them – print out and stick on the fridge, the bathroom mirror or your purse – wherever you know you’ll be reminded regularly – NO… NOT to punish or criticize you for cheating, or for failing, but to be your driving force – the motive for your self worth and the inspiration for your well-being .

Make sure to give your list a title – e.g “Just For ME” or “To Be ME“ or “Because I’m worth it” – it will make you realize that you have finally decided to do something for the MOST important person in your life: YOU!

:???:

If you think this exercise is a waste of time – think again…

It probably took you the better part of 10 years or more to put on the excess weight – you won’t lose it this week or even next…

But it WILL teach you to start spending a little time on YOU.

And of what benefit are you to others if you’re not as happy, healthy and content as you can be?

So, without further ado – go make your reasons list and feel free to share it here.

NB.

If you’ve been reading this and are thinking: “I am 30-something, maybe a bit chubby, but otherwise happy and content… so I can’t run a mile and I prefer to use the escalator in the mall – but I can party all night long – no problem with digestion or a few cocktails too many… so I drive to the corner café and I wouldn’t call myself overweight… yet… but I’ll join the gym as soon as I have lost my (a) puppy fat (b) XMas binge (c) a few kilos… the average clothing size currently seems to be 38 – and I’m a tight 36 – so I still yo-yo diet twice a year and I have bought at least 3 to 10 different pills/formula/potions for weightloss in my lifetime just to help me shed 1 kilo or 2…

Then, good for you! Keep going….

I’m not going anywhere though…

We’ll probably see you again… one day…
